Вообще - ругают. Ни мужу, ни паре, с которой мы ходили на сеанс, не понравилось. А мне как-то созвучно оказалось, знакомая ситуация - когда занимаешься не тем, что тебе интересно, и живешь вроде хорошо, но представить это растянутым на -надцать лет - страшно. Однако пороху, чтобы все это сломать и построить заново - нет. Уютная бессмысленная пустота (с). Обыкновенная трусость. Когда только психи имеют право на правду.

А героиня, ИМХО - из племени чайлдфри, не случайно по ходу фильма их двое детей возникают очень эпизодически. Бедная девочка - так промахнуться.

Отдельно о ДиКаприо (сорри, в принятом написании, сама точно не скажу, как верно). Хорош. Даже лучше, чем в юности, несмотря на лишний вес и морщинки. Прекрасное, очень четкое и выразительное лицо, и эти глаза - сумасшедшие, чудесные светлые глаза. И вертикальные складки между бровями. Он из тех мужчин, за старением которых интересно наблюдать, потому что красота его - не пустая, и за каждым перевоплощением - какой-то новый опыт и заново познанные эмоции.

у меня очень интеллигентные и правильные друзья, поэтому в их присутствии я должна соответствовать их мнению обо мне *не говорить "пизда", не описывать несколько половых актов с разными мужчинами, случившихся вчера и т.п.* друзья не поймут. они как минимум удивятся. или ответят: "что это с тобой?" на присланный в асю пошлый анекдот.

Episode Two - "Here Without You"

We open with a chaotic looking scene at the Sumner Ranch as Patrick speeds up the driveway before dashing out his convertible at a frantic speed towards the front entrance of Gregs house
Patrick arrives indoors to find Carlos standing looking confused, agitated and upset in the centre of the living room:
Carlos cries Patrick before approaching him
Oh Mr Turner responds Carlos looking extremely grateful to see a familiar looking face;
Am I glad to see you
What happened Carlos?
I got a call from Ted OBrien to say my father had gone missing.
How can he be missing huh?
I mean the old mans in prison
Apparently they are saying Mr Sumner escaped in the middle of the night
But that cant be right
I do not know what to think anymore (shaking his head)
Patrick looks over at a handful of cops who are liasing by the bar with note books in their hands and whispers to Carlos:
Have they spoken to you yet?
What did they say?
They just wanted to know if I had seen Mr Sumner in the last 24 hours
And had you?
Yes.
I went to visit him in the prison just yesterday
Did you tell them that?
Yes of course
Patrick has one eye on the detectives while he speaks with Carlos:
And why did you visit my father in prison?
Was there a reason for your visit?
Carlos starts to explain:
Actually there was Sir.
I received a strange letter addressed to my name here at the ranch yesterday morning which arrived by courier
As Carlos begins to tell Patrick all about the note he received with instructions for Sumner, Patrick appears more interested in the conversation taking place just feet away between the detectives:
I spoke with Schultz this morning and he said they have search teams in the surrounding tri-state area out looking as we speak comments one detective
Dammit Casey the Tri State area is pointless.
He wasnt seen after ten oclock last night he could be anywhere right now
Well what do we do?
Search the whole damn country?

Thats EXACTLY what you do
We checked with the airports and he didnt fly nowhere

You checked every airport in the land?
Well in California, in Nevada (starting to rhyme of the list of airports)
The Tri State Area you mean?
How many times have I told you he couldve went missing more than twelve hours ago which means he could be on the other side of the WORLD by now (holding out both hands)
While Carlos concludes to Patrick:
Had I known this was going to be the outcome, I wouldve refrained from telling him the contents of the letter in the first place.
I thought I was helping your father not making matters worse
Yeah yeah Carlos Im sure hell be fine insists Patrick having not listened to a word of what Carlos has just told him
At that moment, one of the investigating officers walks over to both gentlemen and interrupts their conversation:
Good morning gentlemen.
My name is Detective Jack Casey and Im looking into Mr Sumners appearance.
You are? (to shake Patricks hand)
Patrick Turner.
Greg Sumners son and lawyer
You dont mind if I ask a few routine questions do you?
Of course notcan I ask thoughdo you guys have a warrant for all of this?
If you were really that good job at your job kid youd realise no warrant is necessary in such a case
I know full well you dont need a warrant if you think a crime has been committed.
Question is we dont know a crime HAS been committed here.
For all we know my father could be in danger.
SERIOUS danger
Correctionyour father has been charged with murder.
Whatsmore hes missing.
We have reason to believe he may be a danger to the public and for that reason alone we are entitled to search any premises where we believe your father may be hiding out
Thats nonsense and you know it
Detective Casey sighs at this point knowing he is getting nowhere with Patrick and remaining defiant:
Excuse me Mr Turner till I check on the progress outside
And with that, the Detective walks out the front door of the lounge leaving both Patrick and Carlos looking at each other with both appearing extremely worried
All throughout school I maintained straight As.
Academically, I was very good as a matter of fact.
I had a way with numbers apparently.
My Maths Tutor once told me I could do things with numbers that no one else could.
I loved reading. ADORED it infact!
It was the jealousy I couldnt handle.
The jealousy and the insecurityall the other kids you see, theythey came from wealthy families in townhouses with regular moms and dads, brothers and sisters, pet dogs that kind of stuff.
And me? What did I have huh?
Dont get me wrongSid spoiled me with loveand at no time ever did I feel starved of love.
It was the pity that got to me most.
As a kid, I thought there was nothing abnormal about my childhood.
It was all Id ever known since daddy died.
It wasnt till I reached an advanced school age and saw how all the other kids didnt have their brothers attend open house or school plays or any of thethe regular kind of stuff.
It was their PARENTS.
Their moms. Their dads!
With me though, it was my BROTHER.
And once they all knew my backstory and how both my parents had died when I was so young, it made them pity me all the moreand I hated their pity.
I hated it with a passion
Sitting in a downtown restaurant in a city centre location in the middle of Philadelphia on a beautiful summers day, we find both Abby and her elder brother who have both only met in the flesh a couple of times since their recent reunion still finding plenty to catch up on
As we zoom out from a close up shot of Abbys face while she reveals her innermost secrets to her elder brother, so Paul Fairgate himself sits listening to his younger sister as she continues to fill in the gaps of all those lost years after Paul left the family home when Abby was still a toddler
The teachers at my boarding school referred to me as a problem child.
Great academicallybut I possessed real major behavioural problems.
I used to break every rule I could to get their attention.
I was contemptuous of the other girls in classspitefuleven hateful you could say.
I didnt want their pity.
I just wanted to be a regular kidwith everything they had.
I shouldve hung around more sis remarks Paul while shaking his head;
You needed me and I shouldve been there
You had your life to lead Paul.
Im not resentful of you.
I barely even KNOW you
Theres no way you couldve felt that way at the time though
I didnt want another brother though.
I was fine with Sid.
I wanted what the others already had.
Not a brotherbut a mother and a father.
And when I couldnt have one of those, I didnt want anyone else knowing I was an orphan.
So I resisted from forming any kind of meaningful relationships with any of the other girls in class.
Suppose you could call me a loner really
It mustve been real tough for you when Sid married huh?
You bet (laughing);
Susan Philby was her name.
Boy I hated her and she hated me in return.
Here was this powerful, beautiful woman married to MY brother.
I meanshe had no right taking Sid away from me like that.
He was all I had in the world.
The closest thing I had to a normal life.
And she did everything in her power to keep me from spending any time with him
So what happened her?
They divorced soon after.
Later she claimed I came between them.
Suppose in a funny way I did.
I fought with her for Sids attention.
Used to write him letters saying I was going to kill myself.
I pleadedcriedran away from schoolbut to no avail.
To tell you the truth she wasnt a match for Sid anyhow.
He deserved way better than her.
Suppose in a funny kind of way, HE was trying to reach out and grab something normal from life too
So this Karen ladytell me more about her (drinking more of his tonic water)
Karen (laughing) KarenKarenKaren.
What can I say about Karen huh? responds Abby with sarcastic tones.

Oh she is.
You need to see her to believe her.
People like Karen dont exist anymore

You cant escape her.
For almost 40 years nowI dunno, shes alwaysBEEN there.
No matter how hard you try to shake her off shes still always hanging around being Karen
This is one dame who sounds like I wanna meet
Be careful what you wish for warns Abby with a sly smirk on her face that says more than 1000 words could
Karen herself is busy being Karen as Abby speaks these words
Today, her priority should be in helping her daughter convalesce from her recent road accident however instead, the unfolding dramas involving Greg Sumners disappearance from jail have taken over events somewhat.
Patrick, Megan, Mack and Karen herself are all gathered in the Mackenzie living room which has become the central hub for the distant relatives who all have links with Sumner himself to gather and add their tuppence worth on the situation.
Mack stands with his right hand in his trouser pocket and his left hand holding the telephone receiver waiting for an investigator friend to come to the phone.
As he observes the situation while standing by the phone table, so Karen emerges from the kitchen with a tray of Ice Tea for Megan and Patrick:
Mack: Boy, not even Sumner can get himself out of this one
Karen: There could be an innocent explanation to all of this Mack
Megan: Innocent?
NahGregory Sumner does NOT do innocent Karen
Karen: All Im saying is dont be too quick to judge him.
We still dont know what happened
Mack: Whats to know huh?
He escaped from prison.
Thats it. Thats all we NEED to know.
Thats not innocent.
Thats downright stupid
Karen: Hes innocent until proven guilty Mack
Patrick: EXACTLY Karen
Karen: There could be a number of explanations.
We have to remain mindful of that
Mack: Like what?
Some aliens from Outta Space came and kidnapped him while he was sleeping?
Karen: Thats NOT funny Mack
As Karen pours out the drinks to Megan & Patrick, Macks investigator friend answers the telephone on the other end:
O'Shaughnessy.
Hi. Its Mack Mackenzie here.
LookI need you to do a little digging for me
As Mack converses with his friend on the phone, Megan makes an admission to Karen:
You know Karendespite everything he has done to me of lateno matter how many times he has hurt me in the pastIm still worried sick for that yutz.
I mean how crazy does that sound?
How can I be so damn hung up on some jerk who has treated me the way HE has huh?
Karen smiles assuring her:
That doesnt sound so crazy to me
And love?
I mean shes ALWAYS got to believe in love.
And make sure that everyone else believes in it too.
Everyone has to conform to the same way of thinking that KAREN does and if they dont, then she automatically assumes theyre thinking the WRONG way
Sounds like a control freak
Boy Im glad YOU said it
She must have some redeemable qualities surely if our brother could fall in love with her inquires Paul as he and Abby continue their catch-up while walking away from the restaurant where theyve just dined through the streets of central Philadelphia
Well she was way better than Susanbut thats as far as youre gonna get out of me in the compliments department laughs Abby
And they had a family together you said?
Thats right.
Two boys and a girl.
Diana is their only daughter.
She was their first born.
I was just a teenager when Diana came into the world.
Boy (shaking her head in amazement at the time which has passed) I remember that afternoon well (laughing)
As the pair reach a bench in the middle of a pedestrian precinct, Abby (followed by Paul), takes a seat and then starts to recall the day Diana was born
Sid called me to tell me that Karen was in labor.
So I dashed away from school and headed straight for the hospital in a cab.
I tried to get admission into the delivery room though was unsuccessful so I caught sight of a closet containing bed linen, snuck in and stuck a pillow up my Pinafore Dress
Paul laughs at this as Abby reveals:
And THAT little trick got me past the front desk when I told them that I was the one in emergency labor (also laughing)
So you were there for the birth?
I sure was explains Abby;
Sid allowed me to stay during sixteen hours of labor.
I was stunned - if not a little horrified as to how it all happened.
But the payoff was worth it (smiling at the memory) I was the first to hold Diana in my arms after Sid and Karen.
The two of us were always pretty close as a result of that.
Something stirred in me that day.
Something Id never quite felt before.
A love and affinity that remains to this day infact even though its been two or three years since we last saw each other.
What about the two boys?
Michael was Sids favourite.
Probably because he was the baby you understand.
He was the naughty but loveable kid as a child.
After Sid died, he grew to be more like Karen.
Eric was always a good kid.
Always giving his time in equal measure to Sid and Karen.
Always wanting to please.
Even when he moved out the family home to go to college, he was never too long away before hed come back to visit.
He was a sweet kid.
And where are they now?
Didnt I tell you?
Tell me what?
Eric (sighing) Eric died about six years ago
No kidding (stunned)
Died exactly like his father in an automobile accidentmurdered for some senseless reason
What a shamewho would want him dead?
Some cold hearted ganghed witnessed some robbery you see and his testimony sent the culprits to prison.
So they sought revengeKaren was devastated.
You knowI dont think she has EVER gotten over Erics death
For a brief moment, we see the more human side to Abby emerge as her motherly instincts somewhat empathise with Karen and all she has been through these past few years.
As Abby speaks these words though, she is unaware that back in Knots Landing, Karen herself is stood in her kitchen referring to the very same subject as she stands with a glass coffee pot in her hand pouring out more coffee into Vals half empty mug
Karen: My heart went out to that poor woman the other day Val (referring to Arlene Edwards)
Val: Yeah (pondering)
Karen: I mean II know what shes going through (staring into space) That feeling ofof knowing youll never see your child againits awful
As Karen withdraws into herself as she resumes her seat at the kitchen table and wraps her arms around herself for comfort, so Val too reflects on Karens words replying:
I know
And then, realising that Val is recalling the theft of all three of her children soon after their births, Karen responds with her voice almost breaking up:
I know you know
Val: And you know what the worst about it all is for me?
As a mother Karen?
Karen: What?
Val: Knowing what Betsy is going through and not being able to do a damn thing about it.
I meanI HATE it you know?
I hate that this thingthis awful thing has happened and my baby is hurting so badlyand yet I have no control over it.
She knows shell never see that poor boy ever againand yet, I cant help her
Karen: What do you mean?
Was Betsyseeing Tag?
After a moments pause to think about whether or not she should say anything, Val tells all:
Tag... (hesitant) Tag was the fatherof Betsys baby
Oh responds an alarmed Karen for once, she is stuck for words.
After an awkward moments pause, Karen then reaches out to hold Vals hand in an assuring manner and tells her friend:
Shell bounce back Val.
Shes strongjust like her mother (smiling hopefully)
And what if she doesnt huh?
Then looking at Karen in the eye:
What if she doesnt ever bounce back Karen?
To this, Karen has no answer
Meanwhile back in Philadelphia during their extensive tit-a-tat
So what about her second husband huh? asks Paul;
You said she remarried? (referring to Karen)
To this Abby sighs:
MACKwhat can I say about Saint Mack huh? (laughing)
Do I detect a hint of sarcasm once more?
De moi ? (smiling)
Come onthere must be one redeemable character in this townthey cant all be as bad as you make out
Well the paper boy delivers on time each morning laughs Abby
Paul laughs with her as Abby continues:
Look, if I were to put you in a room with them all, give you ten minutes tops, Im quite sure youd be in agreement with me
With our camera zooming in on the pair who are sat on the outdoor bench, Abby continues:
Theres no denying it, Mack IS the other side of the coin that is Karenyou knowthe selfless do gooder type.
Always willing to help a damsel in distresseven his enemies (laughing and shaking her head simultaneously)
Abby then makes a bet with her elder brother:
A hundred dollars says hes working right now, as we speak, on some case he probably isnt even getting paid for
Heydont knock pro-bono work little sis.
Where would we all be without it?
Youre sounding almost as bad as them (laughing)
Im insulted (laughing)
As Abby continues with her assessment of Mack, so we see Mack who by now has arrived into work and is sitting in his office searching through a personal organiser looking for a telephone number as Peggy walks towards him with a large directory in her hands
Abby meanwhile even goes as far as to predict:
And if hes not working for nothingyou can guarantee hell be helping someone he knows in needmost LIKELY one of his enemies
Mack: I dont even know why Im doing this Peggy.
I mean I cant even stand Sumner.
If theyd thrown away the key after locking him up, none of this would ever have happened
Peggy: Youre helping him because (interrupted)
Mack: (not wanting words put into his mouth) Im helping him because my family EXPECT me to help him.
Not because I want to
Peggy: Youre helping him because hes Patricks father, he dates your sister (interrupted)
Mack: DATED my sister
Peggy: Alright he dated your sister.
But also because you guys go back a long way and deep down you feel a moral duty to do right by your friend
Mack: Friend?
Gregory Sumners no friend
Peggy: And the more you keep telling yourself hes NOT a friend the more you know he IS
By now, Peggys words are causing Mack even more frustration:
DAMN.
Cavanaugh isnt in here either
Maybe notbut I have him here (referring to HER Yellow Telephone Directory)
Let me see that (grabbing the directory from her)
Peggy stands over Macks left shoulder as he studies the page of the directory.
Peggy points out the telephone number he requires as Mack reads aloud the advert in the book:
Cavanaughs Associatesleading Private Detective Agencymore than 20 years experiencePeggy this is the ONE youre an ANGEL (ecstatic)
See? responds Peggy;
Just look at you Mack.
Youre like a kid in a sweet shop now youve found that number
Mack dials the number he requires and asks:
Just what are YOU implying? (more focused on the telephone)
You seedeep down you say youre doing it for your familybut really youre doing it for yourself arent you?
You like playing the good guybeing the selfless do gooderyou get a buzz out of being Mr Popular
Needless to say Mack is rolling his eyes at this comment but has no time to respond to Peggys analysis of his character since the telephone answers on the other end:
HeyCavanaugh he yells gleefully!!!
And Mack isnt the only one playing the searching game because at the Party Headquarters where Patricks State Senate Campaign is being fought, Ted OBrien has some stern words for Patrick as he pulls off his suit jacket and sits down at his desk to open a pile of mail with his feet up on the table to relax:
Patrick is in need of some encouragement from his elder mentor:
Patrick: I mean Tedits a complete mystery.
How can the authorities have made such a blunder like that huh?
I mean they have rigid security in these places right?
Ted: Yipthey sure doand that moron of an old man of yours broke THROUGH that security.
Remember that kid.
He BROKE THROUGH the security.
Its his fault hes gone.
No one elses
Patrick: What?
I mean how can you say that?
You dont even know what happened him
Ted: It doesnt take someone with even half a brain cell to realise he broke freeescaped from Alcatrazcall it what you wantpretty it up as much as you wantI dont carehe escaped from prison.
Sounds like an eighth grade thing to do if you ask me
Patrick: Oh yeah?
Well if youd splashed out on his bail in the first place, none of this would ever have happened
Ted: You really are dumb kid if youd even think wed get ourselves associated with a character as complex as your father
Patrick: It was HIS money (thumping the desk angrily)
Ted: Correction sunshine.
It was the partys money.
Your father forfeited all claims to that cash the day he donated it to our party.
And if you think were gonna get caught up with someone on a murder charge just because hes a supporter of our cause, then youre really a whole lot dumber than you look kid
Patrick: He was trying to keep his name out of the papers for as long as possible.
It was damage limitation for you guys as much as it was for himself
Ted: Dont try and sanctify the old croak.
What he did last night flies in the face of every reason he gave you these past few weeks for wanting bailed out by party funds
Patrick: What? (rubbing his forehead in a stunned manner)
Patrick then puts down his mail and rises to his feet approaching Ted in readiness for defending his father however Ted backs down from the attacks and offers some advice instead:
Let me give you a friendly warning kiddo.
Father or no father, Id distance myself from him until this campaign is over
Hes FINANCING my campaign as well you know (arms out in frustration) I mean do you REALLY want me to lose?
To see your seat fall into the hands of your opponents?
Well if youre not going to go out there yourself to fundraise like every other hard working candidate in this election has to and opt to live off your old man until this race is over (interrupted)
You know full well I need Sumners backing
Thats as may be Patrickbut nevertheless if you insist on doing this your fathers way, then you better find himpretty damn quick
CUE an enraged Patrick

We stayed at a Sheraton in New Orleans (had to - it was the host hotel for the seminar) at a cost of about $300 a night - and they wanted to charge for internet access on top of that.
Not only did I not pay for internet access, I made a vow to never stay on purpose at another Sheraton.
